The Restoration of Democracy Day is an official day of celebration in Argentina commemorating December 10, 1983, the day on which the last dictatorship that ruled the country retired and President Raúl Alfonsín, the two chambers of the National Congress, the governors and legislatures of the 22 provinces that existed at that time and the democratic municipal authorities took office. The day was established by Law No. 26,323 enacted on December 19, 2007.
Since that day, Argentina has maintained a democratic constitutional regime, in what is the longest democratic period in its history. After the Law of Secret and Compulsory Voting for Men was sanctioned in 1912, democratic experiences were systematically interrupted by civil-military coups d'état.
