Welcome to the Dachau Folk Festival, which looks back on a proud 370-year tradition! Originally started with exciting horse races in 1652, it has borne its current name since 1897. Back then, there were already attractions such as shooting competitions, gymnastics shows, trade exhibitions, beer tapping and music.
A permanent feature since 1894 has been the lucky draw, where raffle tickets were sold to support the Dachau poor relief fund, now known as the Bürgerspitalstiftung. The ten-day festival is celebrated around Assumption Day on August 15 and takes place on the central fairground at the foot of the old town. With over 300,000 visitors a year, it is an impressive spectacle.
The program includes festival tents, fairground rides, showmen and an impressive fireworks display as the grand finale. The Dachau folk festival promises a mixture of tradition and entertainment that delights visitors of all ages.
