Immerse yourself in the Gäubodenfest in Straubing - one of the largest folk festivals in Bavaria, which attracts around 1.5 million visitors every year! The Gäuboden, a fertile region south of the Danube, stretches for around 15 kilometers from Regensburg to Osterhofen and is considered the granary of Bavaria. Straubing, the largest town in this region, is the proud host.
King Maximilian I gave the go-ahead for the festival in 1812 as an agricultural festival. It has borne the name "Gäubodenvolksfest" since 1949 and has been reliably celebrated every year since 1962. The festival offers a funfair with seven marquees, exciting rides and an impressive agricultural show, the Ostbayernschau.
Since 2012, there has also been a nostalgic area with historical rides and attractions. The eleven-day festival begins on the Friday before Assumption Day, August 15, and is heralded by an impressive parade. Look forward to fun, tradition and unforgettable experiences at the Gäubodenfest in Straubing!
