Immerse yourself in the centuries-old tradition of the Gillamoos in Abensberg, one of the oldest fairs in Bavaria. Its origins lie in a pilgrimage to St. Ägidius and was first mentioned in a document in 1313. Ägidius, a popular saint in the Middle Ages, gives the fair its name, derived from "St. Gilg am Moos", a chapel on the banks of the Abens. The Gillamoos runs from Thursday to Monday around the first Sunday in September and transforms the town into a lively festival landscape with tents and exciting rides.
Look forward to the nostalgic "Oidn Gillamoos" and a church service in the beer tent on Sunday, which honors the pilgrimage tradition. On Monday, a farmers' market with livestock trading awaits you. The Gillamoos is also known for its political morning pint, where politicians from various parties give speeches in different festival tents at the same time. The crowning finale in the evening is the election of the Gillamoos Dirndl Queen, which closes the festival in all its glory. Be part of this historic spectacle!
