The professional holiday of Ukrainian jewelry art or Ukrainian jeweler is celebrated on June 21. It was on this day in 1971 that the legendary Scythian pectoral was found. The golden pectoral from Tolstaya Grave is an unsurpassed masterpiece of Helleno-Scythian art. It weighs 1150 g, is 30.6 cm in diameter, and is made of 958 gold. Manufacturing techniques: casting from a lost wax model, minting, engraving, filigree, soldering, inlay with colored enamels. The pectoral was discovered at 14:30 on June 21, 1971, during archaeological research of the central burial site in the Scythian mound Tovste Mohyla near the town of Pokrov, Dnipro region.
According to scientists, the pectoral was made by Greek Torevtian craftsmen at the request of the Scythian nobility in the second quarter of the fourth century BC in the jewelry workshops of Athens or Pantikapaion.
The National Museum of History of Ukraine has declared June 21 as Pectoral Day.
