Raksha Bandhan (Hindi, m., रक्षाबंधन, rakśā bandhan, literally: "protective bond"), also known as Rakhi Purnima (Purnima literally: full moon) or simply Rakhi, is an important holiday in Hinduism. Particularly popular in the north of India, it takes place on a full moon day in the month of Shravana according to the Hindu lunar calendar, and usually at the beginning of August according to the Western calendar.
Shravana (Hindi श्रावण, IAST: śrāvaṇa) or savan (Hindi सावन) is a month of the Hindu calendar which, according to the Indian National Unity Calendar, is the fifth month of the year and begins on July 23 and ends on August 22. It has 31 days.
