SonneMondSterne Festival

The SonneMondSterne Festival (SMS), a highlight of the European open-air music scene, attracts thousands of music lovers to the picturesque Bleilochtalsperre reservoir in Thuringia every year. Although it is mainly known for electronic dance music, the festival also provides a stage for rock and pop artists.

Since its first edition in 1997, which took place on two stages and attracted 2,500 visitors, the festival has steadily grown in popularity. In 2011, the three-day event already attracted around 35,000 visitors.

A special feature of the festival is its name: since 2007, each festival has had an "X" in its name, which stands for the Roman numeral "ten". For example, "SMS.XI" stands for the eleventh edition of the festival in 2007.

The 20th anniversary in 2016 marked another milestone in the festival's history: Tickets were already sold out in February - earlier than ever before. This underlines the enduring popularity of the SonneMondSterne festival among music fans from all over Europe.
