The NOK-Romantika is the largest festival of lights in Schleswig-Holstein and always takes place on the first Saturday in September. People gather between Brunsbüttel and Kiel on the Kiel Canal to enjoy the romantic atmosphere in late summer weather. There are numerous information boards with interesting background information about the history of the former Kaiser Wilhelm Canal, which opened in 1895, and about the function and events surrounding the lock. The Kiel Canal is almost 100 km long and connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea.
Number of participants: Around 20,000 people make a pilgrimage to the banks between Kiel and Brunsbüttel to celebrate the Festival of Lights together.
Illumination: Visitors' eyes light up in the glow of countless lights, torches, glow bracelets, fire baskets and lanterns.
Program: In Rendsburg, numerous visitors experience the romantic evening in the district harbor illuminated by airlights at the ice cream parlor. Here, benches and tables invite you to enjoy a picnic, and a guided canal walk is a delight.
In Schacht-Audorf, the party goes on into the night, with treats and LED glow sticks for young and old.
Sehestedt celebrates its canal queen and canal princess. Visitors experience a romantic evening with live music and a laser show.
In the lock town of Brunsbüttel, visitors can enjoy a varied music program on the lock mile.
Burg, Canal 33 at the Hohenhörner ferry pier and, of course, Fischerhütte/Offenbüttel again offer special highlights. In Fischerhütte/Offenbüttel, the ferry even dances in the middle of the canal for a good 15 minutes, while the Steenfeld and Offenbüttel weirs on the ferry throw water fountains illuminated in bright colors in all four directions.
Gastronomy: Almost all the restaurants along the canal enrich the evening with attractive events.
The NOK-Romantika has a very special fascination and attracts people to the Kiel Canal time and time again to meet friends and acquaintances and spend an enjoyable evening together.
