The Reeser Kirmes, a festive highlight in the historic town center of Rees, attracts numerous visitors every year. The event stretches from the bus station “Vor dem Delltor” via Dellstraße to the market square in front of the town hall and traditionally takes place on the last weekend in September. According to old tradition, however, it must end before October 1st.
Opening times:
Saturday: From 15:00 (barrel tapping)
Sunday: From 12:30 pm
Monday: From 14:00 (family day with reduced prices)
Tuesday: From 14:00 (highlight of the evening: fireworks over the Rhine at around 21:00)
The Reeser Kirmes was first mentioned in a document in 1241. The then Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden allowed the population to hold three open-air markets between May and the day before St. Michael's Day. This historical legacy lives on in the Reeser Kirmes.
Offer: Numerous showmen present a variety of attractions - from exciting children's and big rides to stalls with drinks and culinary delights. A particularly impressive highlight is the large firework display, which traditionally lights up the sky over the Rhine on Tuesday evening at 21:00.
After the end of the funfair, the traditional “Krammarkt” takes place on Wednesday, where the famous “green herring” is offered, among other things.
