Hambach Music Festival

The Hambach Music Festival is an internationally renowned chamber music festival that was founded in 1997 under the artistic direction of the Mandelring Quartet. Every year during Corpus Christi week in Hambach an der Weinstraße, it attracts top-class artists from all over the world and delights music lovers of all ages.

Venues and atmosphere: The festival takes place in special locations: the historic Hambach Castle, St. Jakobus Church and the Naegele and Müller-Kern wineries. These atmospheric venues lend the concerts a unique ambience and combine musical enjoyment with the idyllic landscape of the Palatinate.

Variety of performances: A special feature of the Hambach Music Festival is the variety of musical formations. In addition to classical string quartets, rarely heard instruments such as the marimba and bandoneon expand the repertoire. This enables performances of works that are otherwise rarely heard on the concert stage due to their unusual instrumentation.

Thematic events are also part of the program: some performances combine classical music with literary works to offer the audience a special experience. There are also children's concerts that introduce young listeners to the world of classical music.

Artistic innovation and world premieres: Since its foundation, the Mandelring Quartet has been committed to presenting chamber music in its entire spectrum. The musicians perform in changing formations and thus ensure musical variety. Over the years, around 90 guest musicians from various countries have been invited to help shape the program. It is particularly noteworthy that the festival repeatedly commissions compositions whose works are premiered directly on site.

Classical music series at Saalbau Neustadt: In addition to the summer festival, the Hambach Music Festival offers a classical music series. This series comprises four chamber concerts during the concert season and takes place in Saalbau Neustadt, which expands the musical offering throughout the year.
