27 January - Benidorm Festival
The Benidorm Fest is a Spanish music competition organized by Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE) in collaboration with the Generalitat Valenciana. The competition takes place in Benidorm, in the Valencian Community, at the Palau Municipal d'Esports l'Illa de Benidorm.
Highlights - Music genres: Pop, Latin Pop, Rock, R&B and more.
Presenters: Various presenters, including Paula Vázquez (since 2025), Ruth Lorenzo (since 2024) and Mónica Naranjo (2023).
Format: The competition consists of two semi-finals and a final, with the winner determined by a combination of jury and public votes.
History - Origin: The Benidorm Festival is loosely based on the Benidorm International Song Festival, an international music competition launched in 1958 and modeled on the Italian Sanremo Music Festival.
Revival: After a 15-year break, the competition was revived in 2021 to serve as the Spanish preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest. The first edition of Benidorm Fest took place in January 2022.
Future plans: After the 2024 edition, a collaboration with the Sanremo Music Festival was sought to further develop the format.
Benidorm Fest has quickly become an important event in the Spanish music scene, offering both well-known and up-and-coming artists the opportunity to present themselves to a wide audience.
