International Sweatpants Day, also known as International Sweatpants Day, is celebrated every year on January 21. This curious holiday has its origins in 2009, when four Austrian high school students - Alexander Painsi, Matthias Strohmeier, Matthias Geisriegler and Martin Riesel - decided to come to school in sweatpants on Shrove Tuesday. The campaign was so successful that they decided to make it a tradition.
The special features of this day are the emphasis on comfort and self-expression. Originally started as a school campaign, the day quickly developed into a global phenomenon that was spread via social media. As early as 2011, over 600,000 people from more than 50 countries took part. Sweatpants, once labeled a fashion sin, are celebrated on this day and symbolize comfort and relaxation.
