International Fact-Checking Day is celebrated every year on April 2nd. This date was deliberately chosen as it comes directly after April Fools' Day to emphasize the importance of facts and truth. The day was first officially introduced in 2017 and was born out of the realization that misinformation, especially on social media, is a danger to society.
Some features of the day:
* Disinformation education: organizations and media houses use this day to educate the public about the dangers of misinformation.
* Workshops and community building: Workshops are offered where people can learn how to recognize and combat disinformation themselves.
* Fact-checking platforms: Initiatives such as “Facts against Fakes” offer an archive of fact checks and promote media literacy.
