National Future Day (Nationale Zukunftstag) National Future Day – “Changing Sides for Girls and Boys” is an initiative that has been held across Switzerland since 2001. It offers students from grades 5 to 7 the opportunity to accompany their parents to work or take part in special projects to explore the world of professions.
🔄 At the heart of Future Day is the idea of “changing sides” Students are encouraged to discover careers that are traditionally associated with the opposite gender. Through this experience, they gain new insights and broaden their perspectives for the future. Schools, companies, and institutions all participate in Future Day, making it a nationally recognized event in most Swiss workplaces.
📚 Historical background From 1998 to 2004, the “Apprenticeship Project 16+” promoted open career choices for girls and boys through various measures. As part of this project, the first “Father-Daughter Day” was held in 2001, aiming to give girls a glimpse into traditionally male professions and raise fathers’ awareness of the importance of their daughters’ career choices. Later, boys were also encouraged to accompany their mothers to work on this day.
🌟 Since 2010 – Future Day Since 2010, the day has been officially called “Future Day,” with a broader goal: to expand the focus of career choices for all students.
