First observed on June 27, 1995, National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) is a day to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment. Today recognizes National HIV Testing Day, encouraging people of all ages to “Take the Test, Take Control.”
Currently, CDC and many other organizations are distributing free HIV self-testing kits. In the United States, there are nearly 1.1 million people who live with HIV, and almost one in five do not know that they are infected.
