5 August - Work Like a Dog Day
To have to or be forced to work very hard. Sometimes this simile is employed to simply describe hard work, however it is my belief this is a misusage. Saying someone is working like a dog may mean they are putting in a lot of effort and working tirelessly toward a project or goal. However, it's also historically been known to reference someone who is doing work for little to no pay. Work Like a Dog Day, which is celebrated on August 5, honors people who put in that extra bit of hard work.
