Remembrance Day in the Netherlands
Remembrance Day in the Netherlands is held on May 4. It was observed for the first time on May 4, 1946. Every year, people dedicate two minutes of silence at 8pm [local time] on May 4 to pay their respects to soldiers and civilians who died during World War II, as well as other military conflicts and peace-keeping missions. This event in the first decade of the month May is annual.

On May 4, the people of The Netherlands commemorate civilians and soldiers who have died in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or elsewhere in the world since the outbreak of the Second World War. Among those, more than 7,600 Canadians who died in the nine-month campaign to liberate the Netherlands in 1945. The commemoration takes place all around the world, where the network of embassies of the Kingdom of the Netherlands organizes commemorative services.
