India is the biggest producer and consumer of dairy in India. India is ranked 1st in milk production contributing 23 per cent of global milk production. Their country's total milk production is around 140 billion litres a year. On average, a normal cow produces about 4 litres of milk per day, while a dairy cow will produce an average of 25-30 litres of milk per day, which equals approximately 100 glasses.
On an average, a cow produces 6.3 gallons of milk daily and 350,000 glasses of milk in a lifetime. Uttar Pradesh is the highest milk-producing state in India contributing around 18% to the total milk production.
In India every year on November 26, India celebrated National Milk Day. National Milk Day is observed and celebrated to honour Dr. Verghese Kurien, who is also known as the 'Father of White Revolution' in the country. Since 2014, Kurien's birth anniversary day is observed as National Milk Day with the aim of providing information concerning the need and importance of milk in human life.
