Rice is one of the most produced cereals in the world and -according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)- is the most consumed food globally. This is due to the ease of cultivation as well as the duration after harvest, since it does not require climatic specifications to remain in good condition.
On October 31, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared 2004 as the International Year of Rice and October 31 as International Rice Day. The date seeks to address problems such as hunger and malnutrition.
