4 February - International Day of Human Fraternity
The International Day of Human Brotherhood was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 21, 2020 through resolution 75/200 in order to promote cultural and religious tolerance. With this resolution, which was proposed by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, the United Nations invited all its member states and other international organizations to commemorate annually the International Day of Human Fraternity on February 4.
The celebration of the International Day of Human Fraternity includes, in addition to events that count on the presence of religious and civil society leaders together with high officials of the United Nations, the presentation of the Zayed Human Fraternity Award. This award is intended to distinguish personalities or entities that through their leadership have contributed significantly to overcoming divisions and promoting tolerance and peace.
Since it was first celebrated on February 4, 2021, the International Day of Human Fraternity has received support from different world leaders. Pope Francis; Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar; and U.S. President Joe Biden have all endorsed the initiative.
