11 November - Angola Independence Day
The name Angola comes from the word Ngola which was an iron object that symbolised kingship among the Mbundu and Lunda people. After 1 000 CE several larger centralised states began to form in different parts of present-day Angola.
Portugal granted Angola independence on November 11, 1975, at a time when multiple Angolan nationalist forces were fighting among themselves to establish control over the newly liberated state.
