Penguins are flightless birds. The oldest penguin fossils are 62 million years old. Gentoo Penguins are the fastest of all penguin species! These penguins can swim at speeds of up to 36km/h! Penguins are expert divers. A penguins black and white colouring is called counter-shading. Most penguins live in the Southern Hemisphere. The Galapagos Penguin is the only penguin species that ventures north of the equator in the wild.
Penguin Awareness Day raises awareness about penguin habits and habitats. January 20 is Penguin Awareness Day and the day helps raise awareness about the flightless birds whose numbers are dwindling by the day.
