National Soup Day in Germany

For a change, there is a culinary holiday that does not originate from the USA, but actually has its origins in the domestic realms. Reason enough to get to the bottom of the matter in the calendar of curious holidays from around the world. It is believed that this day was created by the Memmingen-based food manufacturer GEFRO to raise funds for the local food bank.

If you read the definition of soup "Soup refers to a usually warm, liquid to thinly mushy food, usually made from water, milk, vegetables, fruit, meat, meat extracts, fish, fats, spices, table salt, sugar, cereal products and other ingredients", this does not sound very tempting. Yet a hot soup is such a delicious and warming thing in the cold season.
