Ken Day

His full name is Ken Carson. Ken is named after the son of Mattel founders Ruth and Elliott Handler. His “official birthday” is March 11, 1961. Ken is two years and two days younger than Barbie. His stands 12” tall, 1⁄2” taller than Barbie. He had molded plastic hair at the time. He was given rooted hair in 1973. Ken's younger brother Tommy was introduced in 1997.
Ken Handler died in 1994 of a brain tumor. Barbie's official birthday is March 9, 1959, the day she was unveiled to the toy industry during New York Toy Fair. Barbie first appeared in her iconic black-and-white striped swimsuit. Barbie was joined by Ken in 1961. The first Barbie doll was sold for $3.00.
