Volunteer Recognition Day is celebrated to honour and respect all volunteers around the world who are helping others without expecting anything in return. There are over 1 billion volunteers worldwide. The efforts of volunteers worldwide are equal to 109 million full-time workers. 70% of volunteer work does not involve any organization but happens informally between people in their communities. 59% of informal volunteering around the world is done by women.
