Dancer's Day is celebrated in Argentina on February 28, in honor of the birth date of Argentine dancer Jorge Donn. He was born in El Palomar, Buenos Aires, in 1947. He studied classical dance with María Fux at the Escuela del Teatro Colón and at the age of fifteen he made his debut in Maurice Béjart's company in Brussels. Many of Béjart's works were created especially for him: Bhakti (1968), Nijinski, clown de Dios (1971), Golestan: el jardín de las rosas (1973), Lo que el amor me dice (1974), Nuestro Fausto (1975), Leda (1978), Adagietto (1981) and others.
Since 1976, Donn was artistic director of the Ballet del Siglo XX. In 1979, he was awarded the Dance Magazine Award. In 1988, he formed his own company L'Europa Ballet which existed for a short time and, in 1989, he was nominated by the Konex Foundation as one of the best dancers. He danced with Maya Plisetkaya and participated in the film The Ones and the Others by Claude Lelouch.
He died on November 30, 1992, in Lausanne and was honored by many choreographers: Maurice Béjart with his Ballet for Life, Denys Ganio Tango a Rose for Jorge Donn and Grazia Galante Chewing Dreams.
