The establishment of the "Wine Journalist's Day" (Día del Periodista Vitivinícola), with the force of law, is a desire that specialized journalists have been pursuing for several years, and in this sense there is no norm of this caliber that recognizes wine communicators anywhere in the world. And this exalts Mendoza, not only wine journalists and writers, but the sector in general.
In 2021, April 14, the first "Wine Journalist Day" was celebrated, after the provincial legislature passed Law 9282 in December of the previous year, with the active collaboration of the Argentine Society of Wine Journalists and Writers (Capevi) in drafting the law.
Mendoza thus becomes the first wine region in the world to create a specific day with the force of law in recognition of wine journalists, communicators and writers, as highlighted by the Federation Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains des Vins et Spiritueux (Fijev). In this sense, Fijev confirmed that this Act is unprecedented worldwide.
April 14 was chosen for its commemoration because on that day, in 2012, the renowned journalist from Mendoza, specialized in viticulture, Gabriel Bustos Herrera, who among other awards received in 2002 the National Award of the Association of Journalistic Entities of the Argentine Republic (Adepa), in the specialty "Political Economy", passed away.
