Domestic work is the set of activities performed within households to provide and provide welfare to family members. These activities are mostly performed by women without receiving any economic remuneration and include cleaning the home, preparing food, maintaining clothing and providing care for household members who require constant support, such as children, the elderly and the sick.
In 1983, at the Second Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Meeting held in Lima, Peru, July 22 was declared International Homework Day (Día Internacional del Trabajo Doméstico) to recognize the work performed in the homes of millions of women around the world.
