On August 22 is celebrated in Argentina and the world the day of folklore, a term that refers to music, culture and identity of the people.
The word "folklor" was created by the English archaeologist William John Thoms on August 22, 1846. Etymologically it derives from "folk" (people, people, race) and "lore" (knowledge, science) and it designates the "popular knowledge".
On August 22, 1960, the First International Folklore Congress was held in Buenos Aires, presided over by the prestigious folklorologist from Salta, Augusto Raúl Cortázar. The Congress brought together representatives from 30 countries, who established August 22 as the National Folklore Day.
