Some people who are short love the way they are as there are many advantages of being short. This special day was created to recognize and celebrate the many gifts that short people bring. It's a great opportunity for those who are vertically challenged to come together and appreciate their unique strengths, including flexibility, agility and creativity.
The history of comforting short people dates back to the 1400s. A person's height raises a shoe called Chopines to 18 inches, and Noblewomen wore them in Venice. Queen Elizabeth 1 had portrayed herself wearing high heels that she was wearing with footwear with heels added to the beauty of a short person. But still, it's unknown how and when the trend of celebrating this day came into existence. Short people have been around forever, but there is still a classification of sharp differences depending on the period and their nationality. On the other hand, in places like Laos and Papua New Guinea, where the average male stands at 5’2”, a person who is 5’10” would be considered very tall. Really, it’s all relative.
As a reminder, World Short People's Day has been observed on October 25 since 2013, at the request of the group Little People of America, in honor of American actor William John Bertanzetti, better known as Billy Barty, one of the first people to fight for short people's rights.
