Every December 22nd is celebrated in Mexico and in several countries around the world as the Day of the Traffic and Highway Patrolman (Día del Agente de Tránsito y Vialidad).
The transit police, also known as transport police or traffic police, is the entity in charge of regulating order and enforcing the transit or traffic rules established for the different means of transportation, whether trains, buses or private automobiles. Its jurisdiction is to monitor crimes or infractions committed against other vehicles, pedestrians or passengers in the case of public transportation.
This day is dedicated to the promotion of road safety, i.e. both the teaching of traffic rules and the development of skills and practices to generate greater social awareness in this regard. In this sense, it is based on the dissemination of cultural guidelines as a strategy to prevent traffic accidents.
Events are also held for traffic and road personnel.
