Cyberactivism Day in Chile

As never before, the Internet has expanded the possibilities for anyone to demonstrate, claim, support or denounce. We, the citizens, have never had so many possibilities to make our opinion known, to assert our rights and what we think, without being limited by the press, political powers or governments in power. We have a voice and with the Internet, with social networks, we can raise substantive situations that, despite not impacting us directly, tire us, discourage us. We have already seen how many cases of corruption where nobody does anything.

January 11 in Chile is the Day of Cyberactivism, through which millions of citizens have a voice and can also change the world.

On January 11, 2013, Aaron Swartz, a great cyberactivist and internet genius, committed suicide. Statements from those who knew him said "He used his prodigious talents as a programmer and technologist not to enrich himself, but to make the Internet and the world a fairer and better place." For the same reason, January 11 is Cyberactivism Day, by which millions of citizens have a voice and can also change the world, cyberactivism has prevented or publicized corruption, has caused authoritarian governments to fall, has helped in environmental causes, and other situations that deserve our attention.
