This February 12, the "Day of the Swimmer" is celebrated with the purpose of recognizing professionals and self-taught swimmers, one of the most complete disciplines, since it mobilizes the entire human body and provides strength, elasticity and performance.
In Mexico, as well as in several Latin American countries, the Day of the Swimmer is celebrated. This is in honor of the Venezuelan athlete Rafael Vidal, who lost his life at the age of 41 in a car accident on February 12, 2005. In 1984 he won a bronze medal at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
He was the first Venezuelan to win an Olympic medal in the 200-meter butterfly category. The athlete was known for his high performance, as well as his affection and charisma towards people, especially towards his people.
Also, Swimmer's Day is celebrated July 7 in Mexico in recognition of the only world record set by a Mexican in official and Olympic swimming events. The record was set by Guillermo Echeverria Perez on July 7, 1968, in Santa Clara, California, in the 1500-meter freestyle.
