Every year at Whitsun, a centuries-old tradition comes to life in the picturesque town of Schwäbisch Hall - the Haller Siedersfest, also known as the cake and fountain festival. The first evidence of this unique festival dates back to the 15th century, when the boilers' guild was rewarded with delicious cakes after the annual cleaning of the Saalquelle spring and danced the night away on the Kocher Island. These historical elements are still an integral part of the festival today.
The festival kicks off on Saturday evening with a fascinating torchlight dance by the sifters on the market square, which bathes the town in a mystical light. Sunday then brings the highlights of the festival, including the ceremonial presentation of the cake, the traditional boiling dance and lively medieval court scenes. A true-to-original boiling hut shows visitors the impressive process of salt boiling, providing an insight into historical craftsmanship.
The Haller Siedersfest is not only a culinary and cultural event, but also a journey back in time. At Whitsun, the town comes to life in a spectacular spectacle where the customs and traditions of past centuries are revived in a festive atmosphere.
