The Essen Light Weeks are an annual event in Essen's city center during the pre-Christmas period. Here, the streets and squares are illuminated with light panels and light decorations. Visitors can look forward to breathtaking light installations, 3D video mappings and Christmas light motifs. Traditionally, the Light Weeks are opened with a tour by the city mayor and guests and are considered an important part of the city's advertising.
The tradition of the Essen Light Weeks began on December 3, 1950, when illuminated bells, stars, garlands of light and glowing panels were presented in the city center according to a fixed theme.
It is a wonderful opportunity to experience the city in brilliant light!
