Witten Onion Fair is held on September 5. This event in the first decade of the month September is annual.

The Onion Fair has a long tradition dating back to 1422. At that time, it was first mentioned in documents as an “autumn market”. Over the centuries, it has developed into one of the most important public festivals in the region. The holiday takes place every year on the first weekend in September.

At the onion market on Saturday, everything revolves around the popular bulb. Traditionally, the onion fair is opened with a large parade led by the reigning onion queen.

Sporting highlights: The onion string pulling and the onion bag relay races are sporting competitions during the onion fair. Children show their sporting talent here and inspire with great ambition every year.

Numerous rides, stalls and stands with delicacies and entertainment are located on Berliner Platz and Bahnhofstraße. On Sunday evening, the traditional Höhnerfest takes place, where chicken is grilled and beer is tapped.

Family day: Monday is family day with discounted prices on the fairground.
