11 October - Arbor Day in Namibia
First Arbor day was initiated in 1872 by Julius Sterling Morton, a Nebraska, USA, newspaper editor, who also served as a secretary of agriculture. In Namibia, arbor day is celebrated every second Friday in October and the day has been celebrated in the country for more than 20 years. Namibia's first Arbor Day was celebrated on October 8, 2004.
The government is committed to encouraging Namibians to make use of indigenous and endangered trees and preserve indigenous knowledge about them for future generations.
We wish them good luck in this!
