8 April - St. Thomas Carnival in US Virgin Islands
It began in 1912 but didn't become an annual event until 1952.
Thomas Carnival is about celebrating and embracing local culture and the unique traditions and heritage of the island, which are a mix of both African, European and Caribbean customs. Every year Carnival has a theme.
Carnival is a festival celebrating freedom through dancing, singing, parades, pageantry, music, drinks, food, friends and fun. It includes nightly displays of talented bands and individual musicians, pageants for Carnival royalty and fairs showcasing local crafts, food and drinks.
It is an annual highlight on the island and visitors come from all over the world to be a part of our month long Carnival celebrations. It’s a massive street party that starts before dawn and lasts well after sunrise. The atmosphere is electric and the air is filled with the music of local calypso bands supplying the soundtrack to the festivities.
