The city of Maracay in the state of Aragua is one of the most important entities in Venezuela, a land of grace and encounters. The capital of Aragua is known as the "Garden City", the original name according to the Caribbean word "MARACAYÁ", which refers to a feline that inhabited these lands and later gave its name to a chieftain.

It was founded on March 5, 1701, as stated in the parish of San José de Maracay, by the bishop of Caracas, Diego de Baños y Sotomayor, who granted it religious status.

Ciudad Jardín is an area of general cultural interest due to the events of 1812 and 1813 that led to the Battle of La Victoria, where the royalist forces commanded by Domingo de Monteverde, broke the patriot defensive lines led by General Francisco de Miranda.
