Every January 4, the National Journalist's Day is celebrated in commemoration of the death anniversary of Manuel Caballero, often considered the father of modern journalism, an important occasion to honor the work of a professional who has evolved along with technology, from the use of typewriters to the various tools, such as computers, cell phones and electronic tablets that prevail today.
Manuel Caballero was a journalist and writer who died on January 4, 1926 in Mexico City. Born in Tequila, Jalisco, in 1849, he revolutionized his profession in the country during the Porfiriato period, considered the father of the art of reporting. He was a student at the University of Guadalajara specializing in Law, but began to work as an editor in newspapers such as El Monitor, El Federalista and La Época. His work aroused great controversy in the journalistic and cultural world in Mexico, and was widely linked to the political and economic modernity of his time.
