STATE of MINNESOTA. Proclamation:
After the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Parliament of Ukraine formally declared an independent Ukrainian state on August 24, 1991, which was then upheld by over 90 percent of its citizens in a national referendum.
The United States and the State of Minnesota have benefited tremendously from the innovative spirit, rich culture and heritage, and determined work ethic of our Ukrainian American residents.
Ukrainian citizens have maintained a strong commitment to democratic ideals, even in times of hardship, famine, and foreign invasions, and they continue their effort to become a respected partner of the western community of democratic countries.
Nearly 30,000 Ukrainian~Americans have made significant contributions to the educational, scientific, and economic successes of Minnesota.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARK DAYTON, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, August 24. 2016, as: UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY in the State of Minnesota.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Minnesota to be affixed at the State Capitol this 8th day of August 2016.
