On December 12 is a very special day for all Mexicans. The festival in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe is one of the greatest symbols of national identity. To be in Mexico these days is to share with its inhabitants the great feeling they have for their patron saint. But this celebration goes beyond religious roots, it is a commemoration of the country's history and traditions.
It is a date on which the appearance of her is attributed to Juan Diego on the Tepeyac hill (year 1531). The Virgin is venerated in her enclosure of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and other churches dedicated to her worship. In these temples the devout faithful flock to honor the Virgin during this important day.
