William Penn first stepped ashore in the New World here on Oct. 27, 1682. On June 15, 1776 – more than two weeks before the fateful vote in Philadelphia – Delaware declared its own independence.

That very first Separation Day happened on June 15, 1776, and today we celebrate it on the second Saturday of June with all kinds of fun activities planned in and around the historic courthouse in New Castle. Many historical sites also will be open to welcome visitors for Separation Day.
