April 13 is a special day for an important group of health professionals because it is celebrated as Kinesiologist's Day, in honor of the specialists who study body movement.
National Kinesiology Day has been celebrated since April 13, 1937, when the Board of Directors of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) decided to transform the course of Kinesiotherapy into the School of Kinesiology.
The first kinesitherapy courses in Argentina were started by Dr. Cecilia Grierson in 1904. Cecilia was the first woman to receive a medical degree in South America and taught at the Faculty of Medicine in Buenos Aires.
Finally, in 1937, at the initiative of Dr. Octavio Fernández, considered the father of kinesiology, the School of Kinesiology was founded, where this course later became a career course.
