A tribute to those who still dedicate themselves to this noble occupation in the country. May 17 in Bolivia commemorates the National Day of Canillita, thanks to Law No. 624 enacted by the President of the State, Evo Morales Ayma, in 2014.
Law No. 624 of December 29, 2014 states in its Article 1 the following: "May 17 of each year is declared "National Day of the Canillita", in homage to the first Union of Newspaper Vendors of Bolivia, with the purpose of valuing the daily sacrificed work for Living Well...".
The date chosen was fixed on the basis of the creation of the Union of Suplementeros and Canillitas on May 17, 1936. It was the same day of the overthrow of President Dr. José Luis Tejada Sorzano (1934 - 1936) by a coup d'état by the military leadership on his return from the Chaco.
