10 July - World Rum Day
Every second Saturday in July, the day of one of the most important distillates, rum, is celebrated around the world. This beverage of Caribbean origin has been exported all over the world and there are already more than 60 countries that produce it. The Caribbean, for example, has the largest concentration of production.
The beverage is produced from the fermentation and distillation of sugar cane juice or honey, which is produced from this input that stands out in this region. It is a liqueur that can be used as a base for cocktails. In fact, many world-famous recipes use it.
Fans of the beverage wanted to establish for the first time the National Rum Day in the United States. The date chosen is no coincidence, as it recalls what happened in 1764 when the British Empire imposed a tax on sugars and rum on its colony in the current United States (the largest consumer at the time), which caused a wave of massive protests. This celebration eventually became internationalized and today it is celebrated all over the world.
