On November 8, the "National Day of the Radiologist" (Día del Técnico Radiólogo) is celebrated. It was also instituted in Argentina as Radiology Day by the Ministry of Welfare and Social Action on November 8, 1973, at the request of the Argentine Association of X-ray and Physiotherapy Technicians.
On this day in 1895, Professor Roentgen was working with cathode rays, using vacuum glass ampoules. He noticed that when a current passed through the glass ampoule, a fluorescence effect was produced on a barium-platinum-cyanide screen and, in addition, the effect of this phenomenon was observed on photographic plates. He called this discovery "X-rays". Subsequently, he claimed that with the use of these "X-Rays", he was able to see through the body. Within three months of Roentgen's discovery, X-rays were already being generated in large cities.
