Every November 15 is celebrated in Brazil the Day of the Umbanda, an unknown for many people in the rest of Ibero-America. It is an Afro-Brazilian spiritualistic and esoteric religion that originated in the first decade of the last century and that fuses several religious currents such as Bantu, Catholicism or the rites of white magic.
Umbanda is an Afro-Brazilian religion that syncretizes elements of the Yoruba, Bantu and Catholic religions. The religion originated in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the end of the 19th century.
Umbanda is one of the largest and most diverse religions in Brazil. According to the 2010 census, there are more than 2.8 million followers of Umbanda throughout the country. The religion is mainly practiced in the south and southeast of Brazil, in the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
