18 October - World Menopause Day
The age you experience it can vary, but it typically occurs in your late 40s or early 50s. Menopause can cause many changes in your body. The symptoms are the result of a decreased production of estrogen and progesterone in your ovaries. Symptoms may include hot flashes, weight gain, or vaginal dryness. It can lead to osteoporosis. It can increase your risk for heart disease.
Chemo and radiation can induce menopause. Smoking—and surgery—can lead to early menopause.
In World Menopause Day the International Menopause Society (IMS) explain: “World Menopause Day is held every year on the 18th October. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the menopause and the support options available for improving health and wellbeing”.
