Dog Day is a relatively new initiative, established in 2007. Although in many places we can meet with another version of its name - World Dog Day - in fact the holiday has no international character. It was created on the initiative of the Polish magazine "Przyjaciel Pies".
Why July 1? Not coincidentally - it is in the summer that the largest number of dogs end up in shelters, because their not very responsible guardians have no idea what to do with them during their holiday sojourns. Dog Day is a good opportunity to reflect on how dogs are treated in our society, especially during the vacation season. It is also a frequent starting point for adoption and rescue campaigns by pro-animal organizations.
